Re: floating above; malefactor/the boss
He didn't abandon the man on his walk. The witch was interested, just not in the deal. He ached to plumb wells of knowledge still undiscovered. He was voracious to know, and while he thought he knew this man's kind, he had to be sure. He might not be impressed, but he was engaged.
He was a bit shorter than the man in the suit, even in heels. He matched step, a loose black skirt drifting around his ankles. The man in the suit had an appeal of a kind, but those old memories had left such a bad taste. "I don't know what you want," he said. "I'm not for sale, even if I have something you might be keen to buy. I didn't like that man," he added. "You're right. I made the mistake of trading faith and power for a promise. The promise was broken. I trade in nothing now."
He looked up at the striding businessman. "On the contrary," he said. For the first time he smiled, just a little. "It set me free. Would you like a ride?"
Don't get defensive. That hit a little too close to home. He stiffened, but he still walked on beside the man. "I don't know if you've ever felt the need," he said. "You don't seem as if you have much to prove. Not everyone is so blessed."
