Re: On a Fire Escape; Alex W/extra extra
It was an interesting idea and for a moment he wondered what it'd be like to have that kind of free time to just read stuff. Like, on the one hand he did have free time. As a Newsie you kinda got to decide where you were setting up and what you were doing for the day, it wasn't like being in one of the factories or workhouses that you'd see about, so he had some of his own schedule setting, but at the same time, you had to keep working. That was definitely a thing and there wasn't any getting around it. Reading books, even ones with as many pictures as words, felt like a luxury and buying them - that felt like a real luxury. "I might come by," he told him though. Cause after the strike, he could maybe treat himself or something. "You can show me something that's fun to read."
"Guess that's true," he flicked the cigarette ash for a moment, and considered the street in front of him. "Kinda figured I'd be out west before now, but it's gonna happen." He'd said it a hundred times, but it was gonna happen. "I want to work on a ranch. You know, just be able to see the sky. Too many people here, I just want it to be me, and all the space."
