Like the other flora and fauna that lived wild and unmonitored in the forest, Wren flourished in the summer. The warm weather meant that he wasn't expending any energy trying to keep warm - although his precious tent had helped him a lot with erasing that need when he remembered to use it - and there were wild fruits, seeds and lush grass that he could feed himself on. He suffered now with bug bites and had chance encounters with other animals going about and feeding themselves, but there was no comparison between the seasons.
A diet of whatever foodstuffs he could forage and handfuls of grass wasn't enough to properly nourish a teenaged boy though, and Wren was still thin and gaunt, even if he'd browned a little in the sun. He'd still been going into town for food and clothing and had updated his wardrobe, skittering through the trees of the forest like a wraith in a pale blue nightgown that was ripped deep in the neck, filched from a charity donation bag.
It wasn't clothes that brought him out into town that evening, but the promise of food more substantial than plant matter to a growling stomach. Wren was visiting one of his more frequented alleys, currently dumpster diving. The bins had been collected recently, so Wren had lowered himself carefully down into the large container to rifle through and eat the pizza crusts he found there, the taste reminding him of the happy memory of his time staying with Archie.
It was only after he'd had his full and tried to climb out that he realised he was much shorter than the inside of the dumpster, and with the bin nearly empty there was nothing he could pile up to use to boost himself up and out - he was stuck.
Wren fretted to himself for about ten minutes, biting at his frayed nails in worry before it occurred to him that if he wanted to be saved, he needed to be heard. He started calling out for help, his voice amplified by the way it echoed in the dumpster, a good thing because he wasn't used to raising his voice and his shout was a little withdrawn. "Help! Help, it is me, I'm stuck! Help!"
