Yes, Mao was a nerd, though he’d try to deny it. He liked to think that Vaughn was a bigger one, but they might be equals, depending on the field.
“It totally isn’t my fault! It's genetics.” He had only his mother to blame. And of course his AWOL demon dad, but with how much he looked like his mother Mao doubted he shared many features with the guy. You know, aside from all the cat ones. He might get pouty over being called cute, but at least Vaughn wasn’t ragging on him for being short too. This little Napoleon was liable to leave some hefty scratch marks if his height was brought up in too disparaging a tone.
Of course food was what he was after. Right. Definitely. Mao grinned and shrugged, “You found me out.” He made no move to stop Vaughn from cleaning up and putting things away, he simply watched, sly eyed and quiet.
The sudden silence between them caused the boy to grow a little serious. It was rare that Mao recognized a moment when he had a weighty decision to make. He tended to hurtle blindly through life, barely thinking about the things he did or their consequences. Vaughn seemed to know it too, what with the way he went about getting ready for bed without saying a word. Maybe he was thinking. Mao was thinking. And the things he thought made him feel strangely nervous, but not in a good way. More in a panicky way.
This wasn’t going to be a one night stand, he knew that much. So what was it actually going to be? He didn’t know jack shit about relationships. All he knew was that they could be ruined real quick. And Vaughn didn’t really know him, not the way he was as a person. So maybe… Maybe it was better to go slow. You know, be careful for once.
Being cautious was a better way to think of it rather than getting cold feet. Mao did indeed take off his clothes and follow Vaughn, but it was a little black cat that padded through the door after him, not the pretty boy he had just met, and announced himself with a meow before jumping innocently onto the bed.
