Re: Under the lights: Tandy/Mars
Mars knew that it was polite of him to offer to walk her home. It could probably be considered gentlemanly even, given the likelihood one had of getting kidnapped by aliens or chomped for a werewolf's midnight snack on the walk home. She imagined both possibilities with total sarcasm, even though stranger things had happened around here. So yeah, sure, the weird boy with all the height and the legs, he could walk her home.
On the walk home, Mars told him a mostly fairytale version of her arrival to Repose. She told him that she'd been here for less than a year, that her siblings were here. She navigated the conversation away from further discussion about family, especially if he brought up her parents. She talked about the pizza shop, and how milkshakes were her favorite food, and how she preferred sandals to boots. The alcohol, as it navigated her thin veins, made Mars chatty, even if she mostly only talked about herself.
When they landed safely back at the pizza parlor without getting eaten or kidnapped, Mars swayed with an unlikely smile and a jingle of keys. "This is me" she said with a grand gesturing arm and fingers splayed to depict the pizza shop's dark and creepy storefront. It was late, quiet, and all of the neon was turned off, but it was still pretty evident that the place was a pizzeria. In movies, this would have been where she invited him in for coffee or something, but Mars had long ago stopped expecting life to imitate art.
"You can text me if you want." And, in case he did, she recited her number to him once before disappearing through the pizzeria door and locking it behind her.
