Tandy wasn't socially inept to the degree that he didn't know what the look on her face meant. It meant small town, as if the town should have by now fit like a sweater tossed in the dryer on accident, as if by growing considerably older and taller, he should simultaneously have grown out of his home-town. Tandy's mouth kind of pulled a little. It was the weight of expectation sadly met, and he shrugged, pleasantly ambivalent on the concept of getting out more.
"I'm out." Which considering the bonfire and the alcohol, was considerably further than he'd been recently. But, "Okay. Is it far?" It was a small town. But the rumors of what lived in the woods on late nights and what could happen, when the cops didn't exactly serve and protect, provided adequate basis for Tandy reaching for his own phone and keys.
