Eyes opening to the sight of David settling in against his own perch against a pine, Mercy was pleased. He was glad to be on the outskirts of the party, neither partaking or alone yet. He didn’t have to make a decision, he could just exist in the between. This, too, was a familiarity. Comfortable, even with the drift of incongruously cool air that occasionally reached him to brush over his bare skin. A lack of conversation wouldn’t change that sense of ease. It'd long seemed that he walked many lines between one thing or another and he'd found that it suited him that way.
“Between you and me?” An ironic gesture with one thumb between the two of them, as if he could have meant anyone else. The smile crooked a little a sly before he turned and pressed his head back against the bark, eye-line drifting upward from the boundary where the trees broke and the edges of the party began. “Sure. But even without them out there, it wouldn’t be very silent.”
