Re: By the bonfire: Holly/Trav
As far as talking about the unfamiliar television program went, Travis was grinning his usual conversational grin while Holly talked, and he almost made a joke. He managed to think better of it by the time that Holly made a crack about sounding bitter. Travis didn't really know anything about struggling with one's sexuality. He'd never really thought much about it, but what Holly said made him go quiet instead of cracking whatever joke would have potentially landed poorly. Travis wasn't even aware of any forum posts that might have gotten Holly worked up or feeling some type of way. Travis managed a little bit of foresight despite having had a few cups of beer already.
"Her and I were on the same school bus." It was worth adding, "When I took it." As he'd gotten older, the only times that Travis had really gone to school were when he'd been riding along with a friend, or there was going to be basketball practice after. "I figured she was him. He was her, like one person but maybe not quite? I haven't asked because it is a weird fucking thing to ask." Travis shrugged awkwardly, as if the shrug could help him evade the responsibility of not having asked the hard hitting questions. "It's weird, but what isn't?"
When Holly agreed to seeing what Travis intended to show, a deep breath was taken from the junkyard boy. He huffed some dark hair out of his eyes, rolled up his nonexistent sleeves like Charlie Chaplin in an attempt at lightheartedness, and held out his bare left hand, palm up. "It doesn't always work, but take my hand. Not hard, just lay it on top so you can pull away if you gotta." If it worked, they'd share a memory. Travis didn't yet know how to control it, or how to control who showed their memory, it would either be him or Holly. He was just tired of trying to figure it out on his own.
