Re: Log: Jeremiah M+Hannah S+Jamie M+Si M
Everyone, except Amy, was being dramatic. So, Jeremiah and Jamie were being dramatic. Incredibly dramatic. Jeremiah was taking Amy's hand—clinging to it, really, like he might die otherwise. And Jamie was acting like he was somehow personally invested in everything that was unfolding and it was flooring him. To be honest, Si had come to this dinner for two reasons. One, because Amy had asked him. And two, because he wanted to eat. He didn't care a whole lot about open vs. closed relationships or, for that matter, murder. Shit happened. Si knew that better than most. And he knew what it was like when you did stupid shit and paid big, bad, everlasting consequences. And, in spite of his question about it, whether Jeremiah and Amy—Hannah—were seeing and/or fucking other people really didn't make much of a difference to him. As long as Amy was okay with it—and she seemed to be—then it was fine by Si. Whatever else he felt or didn't feel didn't rate, even to himself.
So, when Jeremiah offered the polite-but-dying-inside smile before excusing himself (and passing over the lighter), Si looked to Amy. On the one hand, he was glad they were making moves toward the food. On the other hand: "What the fuck—" He was mid-question when Jamie jumped in to say, yeah, he wanted to smoke. Si had spent enough cold nights outside in his life that he wasn't keen to do it again, even for five minutes, so, fine, the patio. "C'mon, Ames. We'll give him time to finish the baguettes." He hooked his arm through his sister's, missing any and all mayday signals from Jamie, if he didn't want Amy to come along. "Lead the way." Amy, obviously. She lived here. "The last thing I want is to get lost in here." Even the thought of that was terrifying to Si, so he shoved it away by thinking about the tar he had in his pocket.—If he was able, he lit his cigarette as he walked, then passed carton and lighter both to Jamie. "You can tell he's an actor," he told his sister of her boyfriend, dry humor in every syllable. "Gravitas."
