Now this was a question that he didn't have any real answer to. He didn't know when it had happened, how long he had existed in this state of here but not here. Days? Weeks? Months? Time was a strange thing in this form, nearly meaningless.
"I'm..." He trailed off, a shake of his head, gaze averted down. As thoughts trailed backwards in time, an effort to give an answer that would satisfy Dietre's question, his form flickered. A moment, a flashback, seconds of choking, a drowning ghost who clawed at an invisible surface of water. It lasted for only a brief moment, and then he was back to normal. Well, as normal as he could be.
"I don't remember. I'm sorry. I don't know." His hands squeezed harder, soaking in the warmth of the living, but then he pulled himself away forcibly, eyes fixed on Dietre's face and the tears that fell. "Don't. Don't do that. Don't cry. Please." The words were firm, forceful.
