Within, Daniel was full of concern. He had not been downstairs in a few days, and now that he was there, pacing the store and periodically peering out the windows, Holly's absence was far more noticeable. When there were protracted silences, Daniel always assumed the boy was with Noah or his friends he was always talking to with the computer. This silence was different, and by the time Noah got there, Daniel's over-polite statements on the journals concealed a frantic state.
He was also quite loudly telling himself to keep his temper. He took Noah by the shoulder in an extremely strong grip to try to pull him through the door quicker before it entirely shut. "Have you seen him?"
