Re: Lake - Janus/Atticus
"Oh. I made a deal, of course. Always deals. I'm the kind of demon that trades things for other things. Souls for happiness in life, precious things for favors, that kind of stuff."
Flickering in the eyes, and he nodded. "Yeah. Not the kid. I don't really know him. I am just bitter about you not doing anything you really want done, and asking the rest of us." He stared into the other man's face. "Not really you. I think... him. Atticus. Not you." He looked away again. It was kind of like Atticus was gone, and he'd just left this guy in his place to clean up. Janus sighed. Typical.
Altruistically. Janus was surprised into a laugh at that. Smoker's laugh, low like his voice was not.
Silence for a moment. "Wasn't you. Don't be sorry. I wanted something from him that he didn't want to give me, or maybe I wasn't good at asking. Either way. Don't be sorry."
A moment more, and Janus put out his cigarette on his knee. It wasn't a painful or self-damaging thing. It was just he wanted to put it out, and he didn't want to leave ash on the beach, for some reason. So he tapped it out on his knee, without flinching, and then blew out a last cloud of smoke. "See you around." He left, in silence and a puff of hot air.
