"Here you are." The demon approached, crunching over the large-grained sand characteristic of all lakes, and stopped at the foot of the rock. He looked Atticus over with eyes that had a dull gaslight blue at the edge of a turn, frankly appraising. "Youth looks good on everyone," he commented. It wasn't like him to be philosophical, not that this Atticus would know that. "What the hell are you doing?" It was an un-aggressive question despite the phrasing, his own tip of head faintly curious.
