Re: [Carnival: Mars, Jamie, Si, David, Hannah]
Hannah's only notice of anyone's clothing was when Mars arrived, and it was to acknowledge that Mars looked really, really cute. Mars always looked pretty, and Hannah let go of David to go hug her sister. She did it with the knowledge that Mars might freeze up, might act as if she was being touched by something unwanted, but Hannah did it anyway. Step, step, hug, and then she was rocking back onto her heels and looking over her shoulder at David and Si.
Si, who was talking about a dad who wasn't. Si, who had talked to him, and she thought only Jamie talked to their father, or, rather, Amy's father, and Hannah wasn't really sure what to say for a moment. It was new, not knowing what to say, and usually words came easily and poured readily from Hannah's lips. "I almost called him. I thought maybe it was time," she said, and maybe it was, and maybe it wasn't. She wasn't Amy, but she was, and she thought maybe Si would tell her no, not to, that she wasn't herself, but she'd thought about it anyway. And talking about it made her think of Jamie. Jamie, who'd planned this outing, and Jamie who wasn't here.
She looked toward the entrance, then back to the others. "Should we walk? We can stay near the entrance, in case Jamie comes. He might not. He thinks we don't like him," she told everyone gathered, and she said the words with her usual and unthinking candor.
