Lucas was an affable guy. He was the annoying one who genuinely liked his job. He was surrounded by books and coffee, how could he not like his job? It was pretty much perfect for him. He always had a smile and something nice to say to the people who came for coffee and the right amount of snark for his coworkers. He was liked enough at work for people to be glad to see his name on the schedule with theirs.
He managed to make the perfect cup, every time. Even if you didn't know what you wanted, he could almost read your mind and make it exactly right. He'd even make special orders for his favorite customers, served with a knowing smile and a wink. A bit of a flirt? Sure, When you work for not great wages and rely on tips, everything helps. He made a pumpkin spice cappuccino for the guy who's hair was that much too long because that was the only thing the guy came in and asked for. He'd go off to his corner with his laptop and do whatever it was he did. Lucas would occasionally look over and smile if he caught his eye. The guy would hang out for hours and not crack a single book, which was a bit odd.
Lucas hadn't ever talked to him outside of their custom of ordering. The guy seemed shy so he wasn't going to frighten him off with a full on conversation. He also seemed a bit uncomfortable in his own skin as he sat at the table. Lucas went over to him when he was deep in concentration on his laptop and set a plate with a blondie beside the keyboard and winked before heading back behind the bar.
