Re: Dinner: Athelstan and Ragnar
"The Gods have a way of punishing us for our hubris," Athelstan said quietly. Whether the God's were Ragnar's, or his, or anyone else's, they did not approve of cockiness when it came to them, and they had a way of teaching that lesson with such surety that it wasn't easily forgotten.
He smiled a little and shook his head. "If we go to a church, I want one that will help you feel close to your Gods as well. But I have not felt close to my God in a very long time, Ragnar." Maybe one day he would again, but Athelstan was not sure that would be true. "I think I'd like something more accepting than a Catholic church." Somewhere that might be more accepting of he and Ragnar, someplace they could go together and enjoy.
Unlike sex. For a moment, he thought Ragnar was talking about sex, until he saw that moment of dawning realization on Ragnar's face. His words only confirmed it and Athelstan gave another small shake of his head. "And you would be happy? I know you enjoy it --" and if they could not, it was only fair that Ragnar find an outlet for those needs. He could -- it would not be the first time. Athelstan could survive it again, as long as he had Ragnar's love.
