Re: Dinner: Athelstan and Ragnar
"And how would I have been a good father? I would not have been able to stay long enough to see them grow up. If I had I would have seen them die, too. It was not possible," Ragnar replied. he had gone through it so many times, he had thought it through- "It was not possible."
Now? No, it was still not possible. it would be foolish to let himself linger in those thoughts.
"You just sit and look pretty. There is little that needs to be done. It will cook itself," Ragnar replied. "I have become quite independent. I can even do my own laundry."
When he moved on. Whichever job he chose next. Or perhaps he would retire for a number of years. Perhaps the two of them could travel? He could take Athelstan everywhere.
"No. You were who you were, who you are, and that is who I loved. I loved you because you were different. And you challenged me in a different way. And you would not give yourself to me. You are wonderful. I wish for you to remain for as long as you are happy to do so. I wish for you to be happy."
Ragnar paused, taking a deep breath, and then headed back to the kitchen.
