Re: Driving: Marta and Travis
[Marta was watching when Travis' face broke into a smile and a laugh, and she gave a little grin as well. It seemed to be okay, to be not okay - at least in each other's presence. They both already knew at least one part of their lives that wasn't quite ideal, and that made it easier to feel comfortable. At least for Marta. It was one thing she didn't have to pretend about when she was around Travis.] You and me and the car makes three. [She said it with a lilt, like reciting a poem or song lyrics.
Being warm was a bit of a gift, no matter where she ended up being. There were definitely days where she missed the dry heat of Las Vegas, when the cold and damp crept into her and never seemed to quite go away. But inside the car was warm enough that she could relax, and the other quirks of the car didn't change that. Instead, it created a little bubble around them where they could just exist.
She opened her eyes again, head still tipped against the back of the seat, and the next smile she gave him was more than a little wry in its tilt.] Not much. Go to work, go home. Sometimes I pick up some groceries or go to the library. [She extended her free foot farther into the footwell, searching for where the heat poured out to warm her toes.] I'm not nearly as exciting as I used to be. [That was hardly a mark in her favor, she thought, though it kept her alive and out of prison to have dropped the drugs and vampires and prostitution. Not that she planned to tell Travis about all of those things in her past.]
