Re: The Woods: Pesha/Tandy
It was basically a world of difference from watching practically made-for-TV movies about hocus pocus and witches in high school and eating popcorn and mocking how basic the whole thing was, versus like - picking holes in the concept for not being close to real life. Tandy was a big proponent of like, getting your realism into your sci-fi and fantasy. Yeah, yeah, dragon-riding but also how did you pee in your mockery and mimicry of the twelfth century feudal system with magic and dragons or your space-odyssey mid several-hours' long battle? It was a shock to the system (another one) which felt like a distant wave crashing over a barrier or something, a long way off but another registered on the personal Richter scale of Tandy Bowen.
"Wiccan is a thing," Tandy said reasonably. "Like Jedi knight. It's a totally legitimate census result. Pastafarian I like, object to on a basic level as it doesn't appear to have any kind of logic to it. Or faith," he added. Which - he had done church service for donuts and coffee, but the people who went to church seemingly believed in what they were showing up for. Which was something that okay. He didn't believe, he didn't get behind God or whatever but people who had faith at least were showing up for something and that Tandy believed in. It didn't suck, was what it was.
He flipped the wallet open on his knee. Weirdly intimate, opening another guy's wallet. His own had a bunch of stuff crammed in, receipts from stores that wouldn't remember him rn, a scribbled list of movies he wanted to check out on Netflix or stream or whatever he added to when he came across a title, money and stuff -- he didn't like, keep condoms in his wallet as a permanent fixture, it was the other junk that made it weirdly like seeing the insides of a person first.
And okay. Student ID where the ID had been. Which was a neat trick. Tandy pried the card out of the wallet without asking, and ran his fingers over the surface, to check for raised edges, all the bumps and stuff that was meant to be on a legit-issued ID. "And the pharmacist didn't report you or stuff? No insurance fraud, got it."
