"Never turn down cookies," he said. Even down in the dumps, Atticus still liked good food. Connie had always been a great baker. Liked that she visited, too. Was glad she was back in town, even if she did look older, different. "Trust your baking skills haven't changed. Want to tell me what has?" Watched as she got herself settled, removed her coat and sat.
He set the basket down, and he popped the wine. "Toast?" he asked, unsure if she was drinking these days, but he pulled out two glasses, just in case. Would grab a cookie after. If she agreed, he poured her a glass and handed it over. If she didn't agree, he just poured one for himself. He sat on the bed. "Like it out here. Easier to be a recluse in the middle of nowhere." He lifted his glass. "Intend to become a romantic and doomed local legend. They'll talk about me for generations to come."
