Re: [Lake: "Sparrow" & Luke]
She knew about the military facility, because everyone in Repose knew. They said it was barely used, and they said it was just space that was rented out, but everyone here knew that wasn't true. Normally, it was just the weird people at the carnival that saw the town's strangeness for what it was, but the military facility was impossible to turn a blind eye to, and she knew it wasn't good. She didn't know what they did there, but she knew it wasn't good.
But she wasn't worried about the facility, not really. It wasn't one of the things she had visions about, and she'd never dreamed anything that happened behind those tall chain fences. The things she saw were different, darker, like they were born of something that wasn't natural, and she didn't know why. Most of the time, she didn't even know if the things were true, but they always happened, didn't they? Perhaps she'd been wrong once, somewhere in a forgotten past, but the recent things all happened, and that was what mattered tonight.
Dark, dark, and maybe she should've been scared when she heard him approach. Well, not him, and she thought it was the dog she heard, before she ever heard the footsteps that accompanied it. She knew it was a dog, though she didn't know how she knew. He said he had one, and maybe that was all it was. Maybe she was listening for canine paws, even without realizing, and stranger things had happened.
He neared, and she didn't move. She was close to the edge of the dock, and her toes were over the water and clinging to nothing. Air beneath her Uggs, and she turned her head when she heard his voice. Voice, and dog, and she was sure it was the boy from the forums. A lot of people had said they would come out here, but none of them mentioned dogs, and none of them would say she shouldn't be out there.
Something about his voice made her tingle all along her spine. "I told you I'd be okay." She looked down, just a shape moving in the dark, and she tried to focus eyes that could find nothing to hold onto in the moonless night. "Is he nice?" The dog. "Or are you going to say he's scary, like you?"
