Re: log: ballet - jamie/adrian
Jamie was super into anyone into his class. Which was probably dumb, because it wasn't company class and challenging, it wasn't stretching to the point of endurance and seeing if he could leap higher, turn faster, whatever to get noticed and picked. Whatever it was, it wasn't that. It was class, and it was slow, slower than the kind of class Jamie had been in before pre-professional, and when he pressed play on the music it was unorthodox and it definitely wasn't classical anything.
The barres were solid. They were good, which had been a thing when Jamie had started teaching. Good barres, and no one could knock them over easy. They were weighted, and the people who had been going to class a while nudged into a kind of order, but chill. It was a chill class and Adrian? Seemed like he needed chill.
"It's like starter-suitable all the time," he said from the front, which really wasn't the front at all. More like the side, on the same row as some of the students. "Pete can demonstrate, but he's been coming for years, longer than me." The tall, thin guy who looked like he wore a cravat on his days off came from the Capital, but he had family in Repose, which was why.
And they kind of helped, the students. They had this, so Adrian got shown first position, and to bend and stretch, and Jamie walked the floor, kind of humming along, occasionally a couple words, and made corrections. Not like, Russian corrections (which were loud, and usually involved shoving you into the right place).
'Hey," he said, rounding on Adrian. "Basically? Think of a string at the back of your knees you want to yank up. Or squeeze your ass together and it has the same effect. Line, right?" He demonstrated, the tendu - point, basically, flex of the foot, which switched from first position to second. "Feel the back of your knee. And you'll have it."
