Re: Jamie / Holly: the 'good' diner
Holly was currently running on default Twilight Zone. It was, he was learning, the best way to handle things. He was in an episode, and so nothing should surprise him, right? Nothing in Repose could possibly top the entire compendium of Twilight Zone episodes. He was even currently prepared to accept that maybe every single episode existed in this one bubble that led here. Okay, that was good. New acceptance P.O.V. Scan left, or whatever, and he pushed his empty plate of fries away. Okay, he'd maybe scarfed those down, but he couldn't turn back time, and they'd been really good fries. They weren't city fries, but, as far as diner fare went, the fries hadn't been terrible. They must've changed the oil today.
"I bet the moms here take their little girls to ballet." He could totally see that. This wasn't the normalcy of his Repose, but little girls and ballet class was probably universal. "They probably vlog, like, Little Cindy's Wednesday ballet class, and Little Cindy's Friday swim lessons, and Little Cindy's Sunday storytime with daddy." He sounded deadpan, as if he had no opinion on the matter, but he couldn't imagine growing up behind a camera. Okay, so he kinda spent most of his day being watched by strangers, but he hadn't grown up with the world watching, you know? What happened when you got older and no one wanted to be in the audience saying how cute you were? That kinda had to suck. "Are you doing PT or something?"
Holly wasn't about to throw a punch. Holly never looked like he was going to throw a punch. Okay, not true. When he was pissed, he looked it. He wasn't pissed, and he didn't look it. He asked the waitress for a coke, since his shake was gone too, and then he turned his attention back to the Unicorn Dabber. "You look like a bottom to me." Plain and honest, casual and with virtually no expression to accompany the commentary. He was oblivious to previous heartbreak. Mostly, he was just looking for more ways to differentiate this guy from the Jamie he'd known.
The waitress came back with the soda, and she placed it on the table and asked after Bea, and wasn't it funny they'd both come back to town at the same time? Holly, thankfully, knew who she was talking about, and he didn't so much as trip. "I haven't seen her yet," he admitted, and she let it go at that, thankfully, and probably went to text half the town about it.
