Re: BBQ: Damian, Leena, Misha & Sadie
The cold didn't bother her, not when it was natural and came with the seasons. The heat when it came didn't both her either, she just added or subtracted layers as was needed. Though sometimes even in the dead of summer she could be found in jeans down to her ankles and a hoodie on as though clothes were armor. Here she didn't need it as she helped separate the packages, and then tried both types of juice that Damian had brought. It was different than the sugary drinks found everywhere, and the tamarind juice particularly was sweet but tart.
Her feet bopped to the boys' playing and she helped Sadie where she could, which was mostly just in handing her things and then staying out the way cause Leena? She was really good at roasting food, fish, even a squirrel or two on a spit, but she wasn't very good at cooking beyond that, and Sadie was good at it. She kept sipping on her tamarind juice, even offering the cup out to her when Sadie joined them on the blanket and they ended up nudged up, shoulder to shoulder, as Misha played and the cornbread was doing whatever it did, covered up and simmering.
Two became five and a few minutes after Damian was done (they clapped, Misha kissed him) the cornbread was pronounced and those that wanted it pre-honeyed got a piece. Even Leena tried it, so she would have a taste with honey after and know which was better. Then came the vegetables, and she wasn't shy about helping here, only because they were veggies and Sadie was good with directions, but she was better with the meat (none of which touched Damian's plate).
The other three took turns entertaining, and though she clapped enthusiastically for all of them, and her feet bopped along with all the music, they do so most happily for Sadie when she played. And as the one without any musical talent, when the time came she started to gradually pack things away once everything was cool enough to do so. The cornbread went last, and dripped in honey it was better, though it was pretty damn good to start with in her opinion.
By the end of the night, her palms stung slightly from all the clapping, and her cheeks hurt from all the smiling, but her fingers still found Sadie's as they said goodnight to the boys (with more hugs from Sadie and a nudge of the shoulder from Leena) before they started their respective treks home.
