BBQ: Damian, Leena, Misha & Sadie
Hugging was just about one of the best things there were, if Sadie's opinion had been asked. It was best when shared with family, particularly if there had been a gap in visits. Which wasn't to say she liked the gaps any, because she decidedly didn't, but there was an adage about absence and fonder hearts and it was truer than true.
Even if the little fingers running down her palm and finding their way tangled in her own were proof that an abundance of time sometimes didn't hurt it any either. Especially not in that moment where that tiny touch sent her right back to the ground. This was supposed to be a family affair, a good time. It was a proper sit down cookout, where everyone would have a share, not one where Sadie had to panic because she'd forgotten a blanket. Quickly enough the worry washed away to sheepish however, and soon enough the blankets were coming around anyway — and not just any blankets but the perfect really.
All her color and sunny disposition can back in a flap and straightening of quilts. She watched, with quiet interest, as Damian went about it, getting it just so and in a way she could appreciate. She was careful to stand aside, not getting in the way, and she split her time watching him and seeing what she and Leena could dig up.
Once there was enough kindling to get a fire stoked, Sadie was quick to set about unpacking things too. She took the time to put away any notion of stress again, or clouds, or Kentucky. Today was all about family, the ones right here in front of her, and it was that she set her mind to as she went about bringing out the ingredients.
"Start there first, the cornbread?" The question was posed more to the group as she set aside what would be needed there. Everything was neatly packed, a product of her long time spent traveling about and needing to optimize space. "Or could have it for afters." A smirk followed as the golden bear was taken from the bag. "Or both, if there's incline to put honey on it." Which her tone decidedly said she though to be the right course as the sealed bowls with the meat she'd brought came out.
"Made sure to keep it all separate." She acknowledged and tried to show respect of the previous conversation, speaking direct to Damian this time. "Are eggs a problem too?" Because making sure there was clarity there was important. "Or butter?" Because if so, she'd accommodate her cooking accordingly.
