Re: [Evans & Peel: Jack & Holly]
It was just as well no one had any intention of being ill, given that it was the poor bartender who'd need to take care of it. Did Jack know it would be humiliating beyond the mere act of giving in to bodily function? Did he hell, but he understood that particular mortification all too bloody well. Not in an actual bar, given his predilection for doing his damage in private.
"Magic or science," Jack clarified without clarifying at all. "In this world, they exist. Which means there may be an eventual way back." But the boy was off his face, and he didn't need a lecture on magic, and Jack finished half of his own glass and played with the edge of it against the bar-top. It was after all, a very odd conversation and he felt rather like the bloody bartender, who had been earwigging until he'd got a sharp look from Jack.
"Right." It sounded like piffle, to Jack. Rehearsed piffle, which was largely a clever idea if you didn't want to get stuck down your own path of wayward intention, but piffle all the same. "Does he possibly want more than you sleeping with him for money? Given he's not the same git who was a git on the other side? Implementation sounds very logical, until you unpick the fact that sort of transaction is rather personal. He's broke and he's paying anyway, and that seems like a lot, given there's no doubt men a plenty in the Capital who'd do it for free. Or even in Repose."
But all right, hypocritical questions. Jack blinked, and considered the answer. Did he feel guilty? Not remotely. "No, because we don't usually serve people as sloshed as you," he said honestly. "I prefer to do without the clean-up. But you sounded like you needed an education. Do I care, no not really. If they want to get wasted, there's another place they can go. Probably cheaper."
Oh, his father. There were two people who'd ever really known much about Jack's father and Newt wasn't really emotionally detached. "He was a terrible man, made worse by drink," Jack said, succinctly. "Was he depressed before he drank?"
