Re: Live and Breathe: Derek / Marta
"Fine?" Derek echoed in query. She didn't feel like lecturing anyone on the truth about being judged by one's appearance. It wasn't needed, not by this young woman in front of her that still looked like she was trying to keep up. Only her enemies got thrown under the wheels of her bus, not those that weren't.
"Keep breathing, we're going to go shopping. A little celebratory retail therapy--" Nothing was better -- or raised questions, such as her trip to Rae's. That was a mystery that was still being puzzled out, and her foot bopped a little as she began drawing up her plan for what stores they would hit. Because Marta here? She needed new clothes and Derek bought nothing from Target or Wal-Mart. No matter what face she wore, she was never plain, never a girl in the crowd, or hugging the walls as though she was desperately clinging onto anonymity.
Maybe if she was a head doctor, she'd puzzle out how to get Marta to bloom, but she wasn't. It came down to a simple fact for her -- human beings were living things, they needed all the same things to thrive. Sunlight, food, shelter, and then came the pecularities of their existence, the fun parts that took existing into living, and she draped herself over her thighs, elbows on her knees.
"We're going to have a good time, you and I," she decided with an easy smile. "And when we get back, I'll put you in with the lights, so you can see what they're ike. They'll be good for you."
