Re: Live and Breathe: Derek / Marta
With one of her hands still held in Derek's, Marta didn't have much choice but to follow along toward the brightly lit area and sit on the stool she was shown. It actually took her a moment to realize that the tubes were oxygen (even though she'd seen similar type things in the hospital), and when Derek held it out to her, she just stared a second before taking it. Once the tube was in her own hand, she looked down at it, the confusion distracting her from the mounting anxiety for the moment. She just held onto the tube as Derek sat next to her, and she watched as graceful legs were crossed and Derek began to talk.
She was talking about cleaning again, setting the whole manager mistake right, and maybe... maybe there would still be a cleaning job for Marta once a manager was hired? She didn't want to put too much hope in that, but the possibility of it made things seem not quite so dire. Her heart was still beating fast, but not racing quite the way it had been, and she nodded. Marta didn't recognize the last word, but it didn't seem negative, not the way Derek said it, so she didn't worry too much about it. And she shook her head at the question (because it was a question, she knew, even if it wasn't really phrased as one).
"No, I'm okay..." She would be, at least. It was all just part of figuring out how not to expect someone else to take care of all her shit. And if the tube moved a little as her hands shook, well that was just something that happened to her these days. She wasn't always steady, but she could do things that didn't expect too much from her. She just had to prove it.
