Re: Diner: Hel & Lucifer
She'd no notion why he was here. The possibilities were truly limitless, and it would be a waste of time to attempt to assign him motivations. He could be like her, and reluctant to fill the role assigned him. He could be recruiting, checking on employees, or attempting to drag the faithful into sin. The reasons were varied and many, and she'd no clue to his motivation, just as he'd no notion of hers. It was an even playing field, which she rather enjoyed. It was one of the reasons she'd issued the invitation as she had. No hiding, no games, and just a greeting and the agreement to not get in each other's way. It was all rather amiable, and Nel pushed her coffee cup forward in indication that she would like it refilled.
The fork was lowered, and she didn't need to glance back to know what his laughter did to the people gathered. This was a repressed, christian town, and the churches were filled to capacity on Sundays. It was rather quaint, and there was some entertainment to be had in considering what they'd think of his presence among them. "Truly? That isn't what the faithful say," she said of willing and unwilling. "I believe they're certain you're trying to trick them into sin, and you're saying they walk right through the door for you." Her entertainment was evident in her tone, despite the small, nearly-nothing nature of her smile.
The warning about her brothers was left. It had been issued, and this was all that truly mattered when it came to that particular subject. "This pie," she said, instead, "is rather a good measure of this town. It's dull, flavorless, and it's nothing to venture out for. I suspect no one has ever walked through those doors in search of this pie, but perhaps there are other interesting things to be found, and so they remain. But no one remains for the pie." She was still attempting to ascertain the allure of this town, and she was still figuring out where everyone stood on the potential battlefield to come, but there was something here. She knew it, and, she suspected, he knew it as well.
