Re: Facility: Daniel and Holly
The stuff was interesting. Holly was naturally curious about things that interested him, while being kinda entirely uninterested in stuff that didn't immediately spark his interest. But, this being Gramps, everything was interesting, even boxes that he couldn't see the innards of. But, yeah, he could tell that Gramps was tired, and he let his curiosity sit for another day. He didn't reiterate his offer to help, but a glance around the place made it obvious Gramps needed some kind of assistance, and Holly had spent his entire life helping someone off the floor every time they keeled over in a drunken stupor. By comparison, cleaning up was kinda no big thing. "Okay, but I'll come clean... once you're feeling better." The last bit was added due to the certainty that Gramps wouldn't agree otherwise.
But, nah, Holly didn't know what Gramps was. Look, when some old guy in the woods was the only thing you had that was steady, then you kinda ignored the whole preternatural youth thing. Everything else in Holly's life was insanely mundane or involved copious amounts of bullying, and Gramps was his Aslan.
He didn't say anything about good news and bad traveling at the same speed, but he did give Gramps a look that said that kinda wasn't the point. "One can never know everything," he quoted loftily, adding, "but one can want to."
But, right, Gramps sat up, and Holly put out a hand, almost like he could stop him with the movement that was heavily distanced by the air between them. "Hey, no, no, no, you really need to rest, Gramps. Okay? We can discuss my questionable profession once you get some sleep, and, yeah-" He smiled, and Holly's smile, which didn't surface very often, was boyish, "I'll be working downstairs too, you know, selling music. There's no one better. Mom and dad both loved this place, and I even learned to walk downstairs. So, right, a decent profession, and you can just sit back and relax and get better." Because Holly was unduly accustomed to lingering illness. Mom had been sick, and dad was always quote-sick-unquote, and why should Gramps be any different?
