[the woods - cave mouth: adrian/newt]
[Adrian didn't answer the message, but then again, Adrian wasn't much of anywhere at all. He was nowhere near the perimeter of the facility, which rustled with singed, dry grasses and total quiet above the impossible infrasound hum. He wasn't howling around abandoned houses, tearing them to splinters - he wasn't laying on the local highway, and he hadn't gone home.
In fact, after the spectacular scream of pressurized dark magic escaping the confines of the facility, the black cloud had disappeared into the woods with a bass howl, almost enough to drown out the eternal sound. The neverending sound, which cascaded into the ear like water, unstoppable, liquid, fluidly manipulating itself around all other noise.
The cloud had dissipated into the trees, skittering over loam and terrifying the animal residents, before coming to rest. Now there was no sign of it, no screaming, no howling, no stink of ash on the air or the hot-cold burn of its presence on skin.
It was deep, and hidden. But there was a certain depth to the darkness around the cave mouth in the center of the forest, and the occasional wisp of black dust that slid across the lip of the cage, escaping in a spray of soon-invisible grey.]
