There's nothing quite like a good historical setting to take a tale of sordid romance to the next level. Perhaps it's the setting that seems so separate from our own time, thus making the whole thing feel more exotic or epic. Besides, the codes of attitude! The costumes! The traditions! The disease and early death!
Uhhh, did I mention the costumes?
HOW TO PLAY
- This is a meme for shipping in historical (and also fantastical by historically based) settings. Pretty self-explanatory.
- Post with your character, information, and preferences.
- There are TWO things you can RNG here, because everybody loves some RNG. First is time period, second is prompt. Two for the price of one.

- Spoils of War: You've been taken of your home and made either an unwilling companion or, even worse, a slave. Yet something is beginning
- Nefarious Intentions: Whether it be from jealousy or a desire to ruin someone, you want to make this person - perhaps with an equal or higher station - desire you, then you will destroy them.
- Inherited You: Often times, in the past, positions came along with the spouse of the deceased or disposed.

- Promised to Another: You two are head over heels, and things couldn't be better...except for the fact that one of you is supposed to belong to somebody else.
- Seduction for Gain: In a time where women and the underclass were treated very poorly, there's no shame in trying to advance your station. Use whatever means necessary.
- Courtly Love: Between a knight and a noble, a bard and a noble, a king and his lady, etc etc etc. The kind of love spoken of in ballads.
- The One Above All Else: The one who got away...or the one who was never yours. Maybe they are a beloved friend, a special person you must protect, or that flickering green light far from you, but you love them all the same.
- For the Man Who Has Everything: You are powerful, strong, well-connected; you have everything except for someone to share it with. Perhaps that will change.
- Rescue the Maiden Fair: Or the "man" fair. Surely they will show gratitude.
- To Honor You: Maybe if you win a great victory, slay a dragon, or invent a combustion engine,
senpaiyour beloved will notice you. - Cultural Differences: When uniting two cultures through a marriage or union, culture clashes are bound to occur.
- Class Difference: The poor street urchin who loves the child of the bourgeois or the serf who longs after the lord's only daughter. Is there anything more heartbreaking?
- Healing the Broken: Life is hard, and perhaps one of you has bore the brunt of it. It falls on the other to bring life back into their life.
- Met Before: You knew this person long ago. Have your feelings for them changed?
- Courtship: You will do this the proper way, with meek handholding and chaperoned dances. Or you may have no other choice.
- Secrets and Magic: Your romance is further muddled by the existence of strange creatures and the magical forces. Maybe one of you is even a magician, but you can't let anyone know, even the person you adore.
- Torn Apart by War: On the same side or Romeo and Juliet-ing it, the constant fighting is ruining your war.
- Forbidden: You took an oath, a vow, or some other kind of promise not to love. Before your eyes, that's all shattering.
- Rule by My Side: You want power and you want this person to be your consort, and will do anything to get both.
- I've Grown Accustomed to Your Face: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, or: I hated you but now I've grown to want you like no other.
- I'll Wait for You: You will wait for the person you love. Back in the day, this was pretty serious, considering the death rate from the plague. And dysentery.
- A Promise Made: You told them you would make them yours and nothing would stand between you. You intend to make good on that promise, no matter what goddesses you have to face, monsters you have to kill, or political situations you must maneuver.
- First Contact: You are the first envoy of your kingdom or race. Making a good impression and not breaking any hearts are both good calls.
- 1.21 Gigawatts: "But I'm not even from this time period!" Instead, you're the modern guy or gal who fell through time. You must fit in...and not break everything by falling in love with the knight or samurai.
- WILDCARD
Truth or dare? is a mostly verbal party game requiring two or more players. Players are given the choice between answering a question truthfully, or performing a "dare", both of which are set by the other players. Players must perform the dare they are given, or answer the question asked, quitting the game to avoid a dare or question is not allowed, or switching the choice with the other.

In the universe of the His Dark Materials trilogy (or the movie The Golden Compass), every person has a creature called a daemon that accompanies them all their lives, and is emotionally and metaphysically a part of them. Daemons are often described as sort of external souls (while the part of the personality in a human's body is the spirit).
Basic Daemon Facts:
- They take the shape of animals
- They can talk, no matter what their shape
- Children's daemons can change form at will; around puberty they 'settle' and become one animal permanently
- Neither the person or the daemon chooses the final settled form, but it always reflects their personality (although not necessarily in obvious or simple ways)
- They are almost always the opposite sex as their human
- If a daemon feels pain, so will their person, and vice versa
- Being physically apart from one's daemon causes horrible emotional and physical pain
- Daemons frequently talk to and touch each other, in ways that reflect or complement their persons' interactions, but daemons talking to humans other than their own is considered strange, and touching humans not their own is extremely taboo; it generally occurs only between long-time lovers. Touching someone else's daemon without permission is a terrible violation.
How it works:

Huh... There's a mistletoe right above you... That's weird, it's Decemb-- oh wait. December is the perfect time to get stuck under the mistletoe with someone. And look! Oh my god, there is nothing more frustrating than when you want to kiss someone and press them against a wall, but for some reason, you can’t—or when you see two people who are obviously in love and you want to shove them into a room already. What is preventing you two from getting together? Can anyone end this?

2. JUST FRIENDS ✖ Talk about one of the biggest roadblocks to love ever! You want to kiss them, but you don’t want to ruin your current relationship. What are you going to do? Will you get the guts to confess and hope for the best?
3. GOALS ✖ You want to tear down a building to build an apartment complex, they want to make it a historical landmark. Opposing dreams and goals are huge roadblocks, especially if you happen to want to ‘sleep with the enemy’… literally.
4. TEAMMATES ✖ You work well together, you can depend on them no matter what, and you get along outside of the office or game. What you feel is just that happy camaraderie, not any mushy feelings of love or romantic affection! Is it?
5. DENIAL ✖ No, no way. You do not love that other person. They are stupid or just too prideful or you’re not interested in them at all. Ha, admit it, you totally are. Now go over there and admit your feelings before everyone around you goes insane.
6. COWORKERS ✖ Oh, this is awful. You really, really like your coworker, but there is a no dating policy, or they don’t date coworkers under any circumstances. Dare you make a move after hours or in the break room? It could be worse; you could have the hots for your boss.
7. POLITICS ✖ Clashing beliefs and heated debates always gets the blood pumping, and even though you have sworn to defeat them and get your bill pushed through, their eyes make your heart jump and makes you reconsider your ideals… Can you find a compromise or let bygones be bygones?
8. TAKEN ✖ Oh god. How can you confess to someone who is already taken? Why are you even feeling like this? You must never let them know. Ignore everyone who is encouraging you to take a leap of faith anyways. They are taken and that is that.
9. SOCIAL CLASS ✖ She is a princess, you are a stable boy, he is a rich lord, you are the scullery maid… Money is an important factor to any relationship, and sometimes, it can be one of the barriers. But how long are you going to let positions and titles keep you apart?
10. PRIDE ✖ You? Be in love with someone like that? Ha! No way. You are far above them, and you deserve only the best love. But… what if they are the best love and you just don’t realize it yet?
11. FAMILY FEUD ✖ One of the most famous of all the situations, for some reason, your families are fighting and as much as you like the other person, you can’t betray your family this way. But is there a good reason for the feud? Or a misunderstanding? Will true love conquer all without the abundance of death?
12. OBLIVIOUS ✖ This is the most frustrating one ever. It’s not that they hate each other or someone else is making a barrier, it’s just that they you have no idea how good of a couple you would make or how you always flirt with each other. Will one of you realize it, or does someone need to give you a push?
13. DUTY ✖ Bound by honor and loyalty, you can never cross the line that divides you and your love, be it that you swore to protect them or they serve you. Or will you? How will others react to this? Might it be considered forbidden?
14. FRIEND-ZONED ✖ Oh no, it's not what you think. You see, your best friend likes the person you like, and they are trying to go on a date with them (or get into their bed). But you can't let either of them know, because that is not what good friends do. But what do you do if your mutual crush is interested in you anyways?
