As Amelia's hand rose, Marlene froze. She watched her every movement, hyper alert as though, for a moment, the situation might in some way be dangerous. In so many small ways it was -- perhaps far more for Amelia. It was natural, normal for Marlene to have returned home to Amelia, even in this particular circumstance of the years between them. It had been only weeks since she'd last seen her, not years.
It was all shattered the moment Amelia's fingers touched her cheek.
Marlene's eyes closed, tears slipping down her cheeks. "At least you can cross hallucination off your list, aye?" She asked in a sad attempt at a joke.
