For perhaps the first time in a long while, the Minister's desk was remarkably tidy. No scattered pages, no forgotten mugs of coffee, no urgently marked files that only seemed to pile and pile. Instead, a bare stretch of polished mahogany, occupied only by a few various stationary instruments and his clasped hands. To the side of the desk were two tall chairs, upholstered in a deep green leather. A man and a woman sat in them – Cynthia Ephras and Eamonn Langsford, the senior and junior under secretaries to the head of the DMLE. Brief introductions for everybody in the room, and then the Minister said, "Have a seat, please," gesturing to a third leather chair that sat facing the trio. His face was largely unreadable. |
