Tonks' interview felt like it was going smoothly at first: she responded to the question about her own experiences with a bit of waffle about how she had died fighting for this world, getting the chance to live in it again was something a bit remarkable. She didn't give a whole lot of personal information, mainly because she felt uncomfortable dragging anything about her family into it. But she did mention the specialised healer attention she'd had that had been helpful, the difficulty in applying for certain jobs, and that she was deeply sad she could no longer work for the Ministry, if of course understanding of why that might be.
She went on to explain how her experiences as an Auror offered a lot of transferable skills to help her with this role in terms of synthesising information, dealing with sensitive issues, and upholding Ministry values. She laid this last point on a little thick and Emilia didn't seem as interested by it as she had hoped for. On the public face front she said her personal experiences as a reoccurred person, the daughter of a muggleborn, and a metamorphmagus mean she understands the importance of diversity when it comes to representation and policy-making. Also, she has a very colourful personality. (Emilia gave the fakest smile.)
Her ideas involved a focus on "everyday" reoccurred heroes – as somebody whose name is more well known, she doesn't think she deserves any more attention for coming back and stories that more people can relate to are important. Also thinks the friends and families of reoccurred people could be involved in some campaigns and articles if they were comfortable. Coming back doesn't just affect the reoccurred person, after all.
Had Tonks been a bit more honest about the elements of the programme she was critical of and been a little less of a suck up, she might have nabbed a spot. Unfortunately Emilia felt a little wary, especially considering everything that had come up in her background check. It didn't seem to quite fit with the Ministry double agent/Order member past, nor with some of the disparaging comments about the Ministry she had made in the journals. She didn't get the job.
