Mary wasn't accustomed to subtlety, especially not when wielded as expertly as Emilia's. Her neutrality was unsettling. Mary herself had always possessed big, straightforward emotions and preferred that in others as well. In the room with Emilia, it was hard to tell how the meeting was going. Maybe that shift was a tingly leg that had fallen asleep. Maybe that smile was just bland politeness. It was much easier to know what someone was thinking when it was written clearly across their face.
