He watched her try to work through what was happening and knew he should help her, explain something--anything--but he was still caught off guard by her appearance in the house. He couldn't stop staring at her, looking exactly as she had the day she'd died. Whereas Severus remembered Lily best as the girl she'd been at 15, this was exactly the Eileen he pictured when he thought about her: Timid, frail, looking for someone stronger than her to give her direction and answers. The sight of her like this used to fill him with anger--after all, if she'd been stronger, or made better choices, neither of them would have had the lives they'd had. But Severus hadn't felt that way about her in a long time, he realized, and he didn't feel that way about her now.
Her fear brought him back to the present. "No," he responded quickly. "I did. The 21st of July, 1978. It's been...twenty years for me."
