It was ironic and perhaps inevitable that the year that was supposed to be filled with serious study was now the one with the most drama. As Shin walked along one of the paths which ran beside the castle, a Charms text in hand which he was - apparently - reading, his mind kept wandering over the past few days and beyond. This last school year had been quite a rollarcoaster and it was less than three months old!
One minute he was leading a very correct, studious life that was slightly dull but at least he wasn't troubled by questions he couldn't answer. Then he rushed headlong into a relationship with Lydia, managed to get affected by some wonky incense, got dumped, was gossiped about for forming a perfectly innocent new friendship, puzzled over his feelings, and then finally wound up attracted to and forming a relationship with a boy. In between all of this and quidditch practice, his studies were starting to be affected and it was only because he'd managed to read ahead that he wasn't struggling.
He was also not only muddled but in a bad temper thanks to one James Potter being a complete idiot. As a general rule Shin didn't mind James' egotistical manner, although it often made him grind his teeth, and usually James didn't push Shin to the point where he had to do something or lose face. However, it seemed obvious that ever since he found out about Patrick and Shin being together, James was spoiling for a fight and finally, with his current rant about the prank played on him, he'd managed to shove Shin to the point where he had to remove points or risk others thinking that prefects would let behaviour like that slide. Shin sighed and tried to focus on his book again. All of this wasn't going to soften Lydia's annoyance with him either and it was giving him a headache.
"Why do they have to make it so hard?" he muttered. "This is all absolutely whacky. And now I'm talking to myself as well... brilliant."
