Who: Marc & Emma
What: the morning after
When: Sunday morning, 4 October
Where: a hotel room, in Olympus
Rating: PG-13 at least for language I'm sure
Status: private/incomplete

Emma woke slowly. She was warm, blankets twisted around her, and herself twisted and tangled with Marc. She inhaled his scent, exhaling softly. "Mmm." She nuzzled closer, kissing his shoulder, eyes still closed. "Morning."

Her eyes flickered open, and she blinked, taking in the hotel room, the strange surroundings, then discarding them in favor of the man in her bed. She leaned back, hand drifting up his side, teasing and tickling to wake him up. "C'mon, love, wake up." She shifted again, pushing herself up, hand pressed lightly against his chest.

And stopped.

"Marc?" Her voice slipped, sharp and suddenly nervous. "What the bloody buggering hell is that?"

Marcus had been having a rather lovely dream that had involved Emma, some organ music and lots of shagging. So being pulled from it by a sharply asked question was not on his list of things to do.

"Hmmm?" he asked, pulling Emma closer and opening an eye. "What's what?"

His sheets smelled differently, he noted, prying open an eye. Hotel. "Guess we didn't make it home."

"This." Emma waved her hand in front of his nose. "This. What is this?"

Scowling, he glanced at her hand.

"It's a ring?" he asked, trying to wake up because clearly she was a bit off this morning. How much had she had if she didn't recognize a ring?

Emma twisted her hand this way and that, frowning at the ring. "Yeah, it's a ring. I didn't have it when we went to the party. I know I didn't."

She winced, her head pounding in retaliation from the amount of drink she suspected she'd had the night before. "Last thing I actually remember is talking to Romilda. Definitely don't remember you buying me jewelry." She frowned at the ring. "It's awfully plain."

Marcus's head was pounding, but he looked dutifully at the ring.

"It's platinum. That's not so plain really," he said, though he had to agree with the rest of it. Rubbing his eyes with his free hand, he stilled suddenly. Slowly pulling his hand away from his face he stared at his hand a long moment. A quick glance at Emma's made his stomach drop.

"Oh fuck me."

"Marc?" She was squeaking, and she didn't like the sound of it, but it also felt like someone had stolen her breath away. "Is that... oh bloody hell... we didn't... oh God, did we?"

Sitting up too quickly for his head, he looked around and then lunged for the bedside table, looking for something to tell them where they were.

He stared for a long moment at the hotel's roomservice menu, finally tossing it to Emma as he got up.

"We're in Olympus, so it's possible, I suppose," he said. More than possible with the rings. Striding across the room at a promising looking piece of paper, he snatched it from his pants pocket. A picture fell out with it and he stared at it in horror.

"We were ... we were married by Zeus." This had to be a joke. Flints didn't elope in Olympus and get married by a Greek pretending to be Zeus. They didn't. His parents were going to kill him. She wasn't even a pureblood.

"We did not," Emma protested, kneeling in the bed, sheets puddled around her. Coming to Olympus, that she could believe. Getting so sodden pissed that she couldn't remember what they'd done, well, that she could believe too. And obviously they'd had a good time, since they were both completely starkers. But married? She'd remember that, wouldn't she?

She slid across the bed so she could climb out and padded over to see him, leaving the room service menu behind (she couldn't even conceive of eating just now). She wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, looking around him at the picture. There they were, sliding rings on each other's fingers, mouthing the words "I do" and sealing it with a kiss while Zeus seemed to be officiating.

"Oh God," she choked. "We... your Dad's going to kill me." She hadn't had time to win him over. Hadn't ever expected to have to quite like this. Just had wanted to see where it went. And it was good, but married?

He stared, transfixed, at the picture for a moment before he turned, putting his arm around her shoulders.

"No, he won't. If he's going to kill anyone, it'll be me," he said, taking a breath. "They'll probably make us go through it again. Mum wants a big wedding for me."

There was just one teensy problem - he wasn't ready to be married yet. That didn't seem to matter, though, as he was married and Flints didn't divorce.

"Again? Wait, what?" Emma pushed and stepped back, hands fisted on her hips as she looked up at him, chin lifted. "A big wedding? Oh no, Marcus Flint, I am not being put on some pureblood display so that they can all talk about me and my mum and who the bloody hell my father is or isn't since they don't know and then start talking about how we made a mistake and all."

Marcus eyed her warily.

"You get to tell my mother that, then."

Fuck, Emma was his wife. He needed a drink.

Emma's mouth dropped open. "I get to tell her that? This is a partnership, you git." Her small fist thumped his shoulder angrily. "We're both standing here in this hotel room, we both got into this, you'll bloody well support me in not having to stand in front of the entirety of Wizarding Britain and be embarrassed."

"A partnership? Fuck, Em, we don't even remember getting married! And if that picture hadn't been taken, we probably wouldn't even know!" he snapped, taking a step back.

"And no one's going to tell me - us - that we made a mistake. Flints don't make mistakes. No one will know we didn't plan this if we don't tell them."

"What? How long do you think we can keep it a secret?"

The idea had merit, at least. Perhaps he could tell his parents he wanted to propose, go through an engagement and then sneak off to come back married. It was an idea, at least.

"Until we figure out if it'd even work," Emma suggested. Oh God, people were going to say she'd trapped him into it. That she'd made him do it. "Then if it doesn't we can figure out how to fix it quietly."

Marcus's eyes narrowed. "Fix it? I won't get divorced. Flints don't get divorced. I won't even entertain the notion."

"You didn't meant to marry me in the first place! If no one knows you did, they won't know about the divorce either," Emma protested. This wasn't right, this wasn't how it was supposed to happen. "I don't want you to be married to me because you're stuck with it," she blurted.

"Someone will know! There will be papers and someone will have to sign off on them in the Ministry and then everyone will know. It'll come out."

Of that, he was certain.

"We'll work it out, Emma. For all you know, we might make a good husband and wife." The words nearly tripped him up, but he got them out and with a faint smile.

Someone would know. Her mouth closed and her arms crossed abruptly under small breasts as her gaze dropped. She blinked, then looked back up at him worriedly. "You think? What about work? Someone's going to have fits, although there've been couples doing it before. Fuck, Marc, we're married. What do I know about getting that right?"

"Then we're even. I haven't the foggiest about being married," he said, shrugging. "We'll figure it out."

He looked over at her. "But yeah, maybe we should keep it quiet for a while, though. Until we figure things out. Like where we'll live and all that."

He wasn't at all interested in living in the country.

Marcus sighed. "We'll talk about that later, yeah?" he said, trying not to look too stubborn. "Though we should probably move in together soon."

He hated the country and Emma's house wasn't in the best condition, either. He supposed at least the house elf would be kept busy.

She held her hand out, fingers splayed, staring at the ring. "Yeah," she said quietly. "If we're going to tell folks we got married, we ought to move in together."

This really wasn't what she'd thought she'd have someday. She didn't mind the idea of waking up next to Marcus, and having him home at night, but she didn't want him forced into it.

"Well, I think we should keep it to ourselves for a bit. Let us get used to it and all," he said quickly. "But yeah. We should move in together soon."

Looking at her, he held out his hand. "Come on. Let's order room service. It'll look better on a full stomach."

"If we're going to keep it to ourselves, we'll have to take the rings off," she pointed out, feeling the ring press against her finger as she slipped her hand into his. But she made a face at the thought of food. "Bugger," she muttered. "Just bugger. And I thought the morning was starting to well, too, waking up naked with you."

That garnered her a smile and he pulled her close.

"Well, we can make it a little better," he said, smirking a bit. "After all, we should remember something about our ... wedding night, shouldn't we?"

He rather liked the idea of a shag to relax a bit.

And that just reminded her just how good it really was, if she tried not to think about the part where they were married. She slid her hands over his shoulders, going up on tiptoes as she pressed in close to him, grinning suddenly. "Don't have to be back at work until tomorrow morning, yeah? Maybe I'll be more interested in breakfast if we work up an appetite first."

He reached down and scooped her up into his arms, waggling his brows.

"Well, let's work on that, shall we?"
