WHO: Geoffrey Montague, Adrian Pucey
WHEN: Thursday afternoon.
WHERE: Pucey estate.
WHAT: Catching up.
RATING: TBD

He'd been to his supposed workplace earlier that day, and Geoff was hardly surprised when the Ministry didn't argue with his 'resignation', although he wasn't sure what he was going to do now that he didn't have a job. His father, he was sure, was going to try and get him to join the family business. Montague Enterprises held no more interest for him in this world, however, than it had in the one he'd come from, even if things were slightly different here.

Which was why he was at Adrian's. He needed to get out of the house, and away from the still-sealed letter from his daughter (which still boggled his mind)-- although getting away from it was hardly possible when he'd brought it with him, but that wasn't the point.

The house elves let him in and he wandered into the library, which he seemed to know the way to from memory, and took a seat in a chair, waiting for Adrian to show up.

Adrian walked in just a moment later, a bottle of whiskey in one hand, two glasses in the other. Placing the glasses on the desk, he poured a solid two fingers into each, handed one to Geoff, then sank into the other chair. "Settling in?" he asked, raising the glass before taking a drink.

"If you can call it that," Geoff said wryly, raising his glass before downing the entire thing. He wasn't an alcoholic by any means, but the last couple of days would have been trying on the patience of a better man, and a better man Geoffrey was not.

"Have things been shaken up for you? Besides, obviously, one of your best friend dying and then suddenly reappearing." He imagined this whole thing must have had repercussions on people other than those who'd been transplanted from different realities.

"Romilda and the children are my constants, and Marc as well. It seems more changed than stayed the same, and had I not eloped that same weekend, we would have been there as well," Adrian admitted.

"We've had a month to mourn; the returns are unsettling, yes. Jess has spent the last month upset over the Lupin boy; I can't think what she'll do if he appears suddenly as an adult like the Potter brat did." He sipped at his whiskey, then gestured to the bottle. "Have more, if you like."

Oh, yeah. Adrian had kids here. And Vane...huh. "Right, uh, congratulations on that by the way. Marc got in touch with me the other day, he seems all right. Quit my quote-unquote job at the Ministry today, by the way."

He looked over at the whiskey, then shook his head. "Maybe in a bit. I can't even imagine what it must be like from your side," he continued. "Sucks enough being on this side of things. Trying not to think about what's going on wherever I came from."

"Presumably your friends and family are upset," Adrian pointed out with a tip of the glass. "But that assumes where you came from still exists. Are there truly that many versions of ourselves out there? And what would bring all of you here and now?"

Another sip, and he asked, "What do you plan on doing now that you're not a Hit Wizard? But I congratulate you on leaving the Ministry; I left after the explosion."

"I have no idea, and frankly thinking of it makes my head hurt. I know fuck-all about any of this." Geoff shook his head. "I'm having a hard enough time adjusting to the idea that I have a kid, although with her off at school it's a little easier because I don't have to deal with the reality."

Fuck, he needed to open that letter, and then write her back.

"Not a clue. Thought I might check with some of the teams, see if any of them need a Chaser, although if I never played here that might not work out."

"You never played here." Adrian shook his head. "I'm the one who went on to professional Quidditch here, while you and Marc went into law enforcement. Is that what you did then, in your own time?"

He considered the man who looked like his friend had once; he had the beginnings of an idea, but he wasn't sure it would prove out.

"Yeah, I played for the Falcons. First string for about three and a half years," he said, unable to keep the smugness out of his voice. His playing ability was perhaps something he was a bit arrogant about, and he'd noted with satisfaction that had surprised him that Michaela seemed to have inherited it-- the talent and the arrogance.

Leaning back in the chair, he played with the glass idly. "So what do you do these days?"

"Returning to Quidditch in a way that allows me to be with my family," he said. "Used to be first string Chaser for the Cannons until Solange died and I came home. The miniature Weasel and I had set up a plan for business, providing specialized clinics, since I've been teaching the children for the last several years."

But the last month hadn't been easy, without the funding to do most of what he and Ginny had planned, not without beggaring his family. "However, funding died with the Potters."

Interesting. Quidditch clinics. Teaching other people to play Quidditch. Not a bad way to make a living, he had to say. "Sounds like the perfect job. Other than playing, of course."

He raised his eyebrows. "That's too bad." Hmm. He wondered if he had as much money here as he had where he'd come from. Of course, there was Michaela to think about, but it wasn't as though he had any other children, or any plans to have any, or a wife.

"Can't handle the travel anymore, not with kids and a wife. You shouldn't either; Mick'd miss you," Adrian pointed out. He drained the last of his glass, then stood to replenish it, and pour for Geoff as well.

"It might well be the perfect job. At the moment I make my own hours, take holidays when I want, end should be spending my days in the air." He raised both eyebrows. "That last is ironic, of course. At the moment I spend more hours working than I did at the Ministry, and every bit of it deskbound while I work on finding funding, and contracts."

"She's at school," Geoff said, raking his hand through his hair, but he knew that Adrian was right. The letter weighed even heavier in his pocket and he swore to himself he'd answer it as soon as he got home.

"Sounds pretty perfect to me." In fact, it sounded like something that he wouldn't mind doing as a job himself. "You know, I'm not sure how much money I have here, but I was pretty loaded where I came from. You know, if you need another investor. If I'm as wealthy as I think I am. If I'm not, sorry for getting your hopes up, heh."

"I'd be interested in that," Adrian said, sitting upright with interest. "We'd never talked about your fortunes, and for once I might not resent that they could be more than mine. I'll admit to avarice." A small smirk.

"But yes, I need another investor. And another instructor, if you're truly that good. Of course, flying well doesn't necessarily translate to patience teaching."

"I'll have to check them out, but there's a very good chance I can help you. And it's certainly something that I'm interested in."

Geoff leaned forward, elbows braced on his knees. "I don't know if I have the patience to teach, but I'd be willing to give it a shot. It's better than sitting around and doing nothing."

"I'd planned on trading on the names we had, myself and Weasley, both former star players on our own teams until parenthood took us away. People here thinking you haven't played since Hogwarts means we've an uphill battle."

He looked over at Geoff. "I've a budget, if you'd like a look, in my office. We'll need to do demonstrations, which means you and I will need to get in the air as soon as possible."
