He stopped and looked at Joey. He'd been more than a bit preoccupied with everything else that he hadn't even noticed she didn't have shoes with her. "Did you want my boots?" he asked - though he wasn't sure if that would be worse. They'd be at least a few sizes too big on the girl. Though at least her feet would be protected.
He smiled back at her a little to her answer. "That's great, Joey," it was definitely sincere and more than just the random small talk he'd been trying for to keep her mind off of things. "My Mom was a nurse, that's a really admirable path to go down." Between his Mom, and the women he had met who put their own life and limb on the line on the front lines during the war, Steve had nothing but a huge respect for the profession. "What's Starfleet?" he had to ask though, it sounded vaguely familiar but in a way he couldn't quite place.
"We - " he paused for a moment and shrugged a bit. "Save the world?" It always felt a little weird to talk about. He could rally the troops like no one's business but it always seemed awkward to have to explain somehow. It didn't help that coming off the incident with Ultron he had to wonder just how honest that description was. If it hadn't been for them would Ultron have even existed in the first place. HYDRA had grown right under their noses. Half the time it felt to Steve like they were both the solution and the problem lately.
