The past thirty six hours, give or take, had not been the finest hours of Joey's life. She'd always been kind of a klutz, but she couldn't ever remember a time when she'd fallen up the stairs before. If that wasn't bad enough, just from the sheer embarrassment — she hadn't given anyone that particular detail and probably never would — the way she'd landed on her ankle when she'd tried to catch herself with another step that didn't fall on the stair properly had done a bit of damage itself. Joey wasn't going to tell anyone else, but she worried that she'd sprained it. Without the right tools, she couldn't know for sure, of course, but if it was still bothering her in a few days, she'd have her answer, anyway. At least, she thought, she hadn't broken it.
The only thing Joey had to contribute to the group was her medical training, which wasn't complete. There had been someone else, though, who seemed to have at least some sort of knowledge on the herbal side of the subject which...admittedly, as selfish as it was, frustrated Joey. She had no right to be upset that someone else could treat injured people in a different way, but she also knew that the other woman was well-versed in survival, so she already had something to contribute to the group. Joey felt useless all over again.
So when Sam had left a message in the journal needing stitches, she probably shouldn't have felt so relieved for a reason to be useful, but she did. That was a secret Joey planned to keep.
The knock at the door had Joey pushing herself to her feet and she limped across the apartment to answer it, assuming that it was Sam. When she opened the door, she didn't expect to see someone who had at least a foot and change on her. ...she definitely didn't expect someone who looked like that. Her jaw slackened a little as she looked back at him with her already large eyes widened slightly and it took a few beats for her to realize that she was staring. "Hi..." she breathed.
Clearing her throat, Joey held onto the doorknob and hopped out of the way to give him space to come in. "Sorry. Hi. Sam?" she asked.
