Joey tugged off her other shoe and her socks followed. She balled them up and shoved them into the shoes to keep them — hopefully — from getting wet. Then, she pushed herself up and started to wade carefully into the edge of the river, thankful that the current in the river wasn't too strong just then. She balanced on a rock beneath the surface, stretching out one of her legs and pointing her toes to try to find footing beneath that, but then the sound of someone calling out startled her. Her eyes went wide and she opened her mouth in an 'o' of surprise before a tiny yelp escaped her as she toppled over into the river.
When she surfaced a second later, her eyes went wide and her jaw went slack. "Oh my God, so cold!" she gasped. On the plus side, she did manage to find her footing. Pushing wet hair out of her face, Joey looked around for the source of the original question and her face went red when she found him. "Um...no...well, I wasn't, but..." she replied awkwardly and, in an attempt to salvage a little bit of her dignity and pride, Joey moved to start pulling up the cattails by the roots. "I was trying to reach these," she explained, holding one up. "They're edible. Probably gross, but edible." She paused, shivering a little as a breeze drifted over her wet skin. "...who are you?"
