"It was colder when we first got here than it is now, so maybe if the weather stays nice, it won't be so bad," she suggested thoughtfully, turning over again and treading water as she looked back at him. He was kind of cute, actually. Not in a classic, All-American sort of way, but in a way she couldn't quite put her finger on. She supposed making that realization was just asking for her social awkwardness to rear its ugly head again and that thought was frustrating.
Hearing his response sounded so crazy even though, in this place, she believed it and she'd experienced the grass herself. Joey huffed another laugh. "Jesus, can you imagine someone who'd never been here overhearing this conversation right now?" she asked, laughing again. "We'd sound like lunatics."
Joey lowered herself underwater again to push her hair back as she surfaced after he answered. "Trust me, I know," she intoned. "Like two weeks, give or take a couple of days," she added. "About two weeks longer than I would've liked. I can't freaking believe this place...I didn't sign up for this, I hate it here, and I'm going to flunk out of my last semester at The Academy because I missed my finals for this crap. It's such bullshit."
