Once she was out of the apartment Sam ducked inside and grabbed a broken table leg that was lying on the ground close to the door, then like a shot he was out into the hallway after her. He moved quickly but as quietly as he could, not wanting to risk her hearing him and having to fight her off.
When he got close enough he swung the table leg with significant force and there was a sickening thud as it connected with her head. "Sorry." He said softly as she fell unconscious to the floor.
Sam waited a minute to make sure she was really out, then carefully lifted her up and carried her back to her apartment. He found a chair in her bedroom that was still intact and he set her down on it, then he started tearing one of her bedsheets into long strands. He used the makeshift rope to bind her hands and legs to the chair. He frowned and glanced back at her as he left the room, closing the door and propping another chair under the handle to secure it as much as possible for the time being.
When he got back out into the hallway he leant his back against the wall and slid down to the floor, resting there for a few minutes with his head in his hands.
