Bunny and Nate with special guest Charlie- About 8:30
Charlie is still up, and while the babe is, Nate is insistent on taking him for a spell and showing him the lights, maybe taking him for a spin on the carousel. He’s not too drunk yet and plus, he has Bunny there to supervise. She’ll get her turn holding the sweet boy but for now he’s taking him around, cherub face turned outward toward the bright lights and all of the people who are shining brighter than the stars. It takes a village. Right?
It’s autumn and the lights of summer are a wash of memory. The capitol is a memory. Now he’s a part of the Dog Park, part of Bode’s world again, he’s got his Bunny and he isn’t sure if he has the right to ask for anything more than that but he can’t help thinking and hoping that there is more delight in store for the people he loves. Holding Charlie is a reminder of life, of surviving, of needing someone to make it through all the bad to get to what’s good. The laughter that bubbles out of Charlie whenever he sees something particularly colorful is making Nate laugh too.
When they stop at the short line for the carousel, Bunny right beside them he leans over and kisses her head. “I want the Dragon.” He says, watching the whimsical creatures dance around, bouncing up and down. “and I want to marry you.” He says again. Again, because it’s a topic he is not shy about. Things have been crazy but maybe now they can have a ceremony truly.
