Sometimes the weather irritates Sarge, in the same way just about anything has the potential to deepen the frown lines on his face these days. It's that time of year where the trees that aren't around anymore should cover the ground in leaves, and every so often he wonders how things here might look if the land hadn't been scorched, he tries to imagine Cat plowing through piles of leaves. And the strangest part is, he can't even really remember it. There are vague notions of Rodeo and him pretending to be dragons, of throwing rustling leaves at each other, the occasional rock between them adding to the collection of constant scrapes and bruises. But that was in the past. Present day doesn't seem to fit into this, and it's with a grim sort of satisfaction that Sarge concludes that they just don't deserve anything but scorched dirt, dust and blobs. The world is full of atrocities, even more so than it used to be, and it's finally looking the part. There is no room for beauty.
Tucking the cigarette between his lips he lets Addie's response chase away the black clouds in his head and regards her with a lopsided half-grin from the corner of his eyes. If anyone ever finds out that he has read Emma more than once, enough to be able to quote it, he might have to figure out a way to dissolve right on the spot, but it's a risk he is willing to take.
"Ghost busters. I wanna steal their gadgets," he says, as somber as one can with a kitten trying to claw it's way out of one's shirt. "Alright, before the little shithead kills me." And he reaches into his shirt and pulls out the little furball, still a little grubby, but Sarge cleaned him up s best as he could. At least he figures it's a guy, he still hasn't checked and it's hard with the tiny ones, even if they don't have an abundance of fur like this one. As if they had trained for this, the kitten is holding on to a bag of Skittles retrieved from a nifty inside pocket, and he snorts, holding the thing up by the scruff on the neck for Addie to take whenever she is ready. By the look on his face he hopes that will be sooner rather than later.
