With the number of children Maggie has alluded to Adelaide blinks, blinks again when she says all of them were unintended. She opens her mouth briefly, thinks better for once, and shuts it again. When she found out she was pregnant, when she started to suspect what Rob had done to her there were a lot of emotions, but prominent among them was the anger that people were going to somehow think that she wasn't a woman who could manage her own affairs, wasn't a woman who could make sure she took one damned pill a day. But, she supposes, people are all different, and anyway the stakes were a lot different before the dead rose.
She goes for a smile instead. "Honey, if the will of my brother was all it took, this baby would be immortal," she says, surely. "You've never seen a man so in love in all your days."
