Adelaide watches Rob's name wash over Maggie with little effect, but it really doesn't matter, anymore. It's perhaps one of the first things in the whole of her life that has inspired her to feel guilt, but guilt is not grief and it isn't missing him, either. Charlie is a Hawkins now, as far as Adelaide is concerned.
When Maggie takes hold of Charlie it's very obvious that she is experienced, and her words only confirm it. They also make Adelaide frown, the horror reality of their world now brought to light - though Maggie doesn't say what happened to her children, Adelaide can certainly guess. She rubs her hands over arms that have a sudden chill.
"I never intended to have children," she admits, muted and maybe a little stiff, because these emotional things are really not her forte - not with people who aren't hers, anyway. "Even before the end. But once they drop in... There's no denying them, is there? I can't imagine losing him."
