"Sure," Adelaide answers, catching on that they're taking baby steps with the baby, that this is something Maggie seems to need to do in phases. She decides to ask Jims tonight if there's something she ought to know about Maggie. But until then - "Here, he's good with new people," she says, standing again and lifting Charlie so she can take him, easily. Adelaide has never had to fear the things that Maggie seems to fear, people doing wrong to her and getting away with it. People knew from her earliest days just who she was, and just who would be coming for their blood if they harmed a hair on her head. It was an emboldening knowledge, and one that set her apart, made her Other and Above, always.
And when it wasn't Rodeo's shadow protecting her, it was Rob's, and it was just as powerful in the Capitol, if not necessarily as bloody. The question has a frown passing briefly across Adelaide's face, but it passes and she just looks frank after that. "His father is TR Lansing," she says. Most anybody in Austin who pays attention to the freenet or to current events knows the name of Olinger's right hand man, but Adelaide has no idea if this woman pays attention to such things at all. "He was with us at the Capitol, but he hasn't been seen since I was arrested." The words are even, delivered without much sign of distress, so it's left to Maggie's imagination whether Adelaide is really fine with it, or whether she is just good at hiding the signs.
